Description of DCI Role: Co-Project Leader and Subcontractor
Project Team Leader(s): Ron Duckworth
Project Cost: Confidential
Time Period of Project Work: 2000 - 2001
Client: Solis Environmental/SBIR Phase I Federal Department of Transportation

Project Description
DCI served as co-project leader and subcontractor to Solis Environmental in conducting a Phase I Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Grant for the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) to identify potential sources of native seed (grasses and forbs) for use in federal programs including highway construction. Duties included identification of potential resources in three states; evaluation of native seed production, processing, and marketing; and development of a network of potential partners to facilitate development of the Phase II project.

The Phase I Feasibility Study was successful in identification of a business opportunity to develop new and expanded production of native seed at a competitive cost. Additionally, we identified opportunities to expand programs for wildlife habitat and conservation organizations located in the three states. A Phase II grant was awarded to the project team in 2003.
