Threatened/Endangered Plant Survey

Description of DCI Role: Threatened/Endangered Plant Survey
Project Team Leader(s): Heather Herrick
Project Cost: Confidential
Time Period of Project Work: June 2002
Client: Svoboda Ecological Resources
Client Representative: Frank Svoboda

Project Description
The U.S. Forest Service required threatened and endangered plant surveys for approximately 1 million acres of land in Chippewa National Forest to help determine future land use. Svoboda Ecological Resources (SER) contracted to survey approximately 14,000 acres. DCI personnel joined the SER team in June to conduct the spring surveys. The survey area included hardwood, conifer, and mixed stands in north central Minnesota.

Duties of DCI personnel included identification of listed threatened and endangered plant species (sensitive species), identification of probable habitats for sensitive species, interpretation of digital orthophoto quadrangles and color infrared images, marking of identified sensitive species populations and specified points in each stand as quality control measures, and completion of required U.S. Forest Service forms.
